In Spanish class we 4^th grade read a story of a old, famous author called Carmen Lyra. The story was called Ubieta its about a man that has decided to go outside and explore the world.So he was packing his bag, and in his bag he had three slices of bread.When After reading the story we had to make a play .With it 4^th grade was divided into 6 groups, they performed the act in front of the whole Spanish class.

Weather Tools

In our class everybody had to do a weather tool and four people did thermometers. Anik made his with alcohol and tap water. Andrea did hers with cooking oil. Fred and Nicole did there’s with water. So we went to the teachers lounge and we put them in a bowl of cold water and a bowl of hot water. Anik did it first in the cold water and the liquid in the straw went all the way down into the bottle .Fred did it first in hot water and it didn’t go up. We think it did not go because there was a plug in the top of the straw . Then Andrea did it in hot water second and it went up alot. Nicole did it in hot water and it went up a little. Then we put Andrea's in the cold water and it went down a little bit maybe because the oil is dense. Then Anik put his in the hot water and it almost exploded!!! We had a lot of fun doing our experiments on our thermometers.

Music Class

In music, we are practicing new notes like C. Or old ones like B, A, and G.
But now, we are going to learn new dances for UN day Celebrations in the gym. We are dancing because the sound is not clear in the gym and nobody can hear you. Now everyone will see us dance!

In art class we are doing an art contest where 2^nd,3^rd and 4^th grade are participating. It is based on saving animals. The winners drawing will go to the children’s museum .The materials are crayons, markers and sharpie out lines.

At our family picnic!!!

On Saturday, CDS had a family picnic 4^th grade had to bring in cupcakes for cupcake walk.

In the cupcake walk, the teachers put on the music every one walked around the circle .When the music stopped you had to find a number and stay on it .Then they picked a number from the bag and if it’s your number you got a cupcake. There was a part where the people got to ride horse’s .There where bunnies, baby cows, baby chickens and a piglet .That was very COOL!

We could be with friends and with family and we can touch all kind of animals .There was a lot of food too. There was a adopt a dog booth many dogs need home .All the teachers were there. That was very GREAT! It was one of the better times of my life.

In PE ,we have been doing a lot of tests like the stretch test. MS.Channer,the PE teacher,has worked a lot on the test .Everyone has done a great effort doing the test.

The Country Day School Library

The Country day school library got around 600 new books this year. They also got 10 new laptop for the students to use. Destiny Quest is a website at CDSlibrary. com. You can look at books that are checked in and out of our library. There is a lot to do on it. You can look at the top 10 books and look at the new books. Ms. Thomas, Ms. Porras, and Ms. Garro work there. The library is open from 7:30 am to 3:00 pm. We asked several students what they thought about the new books. Ms. Langley said nice quality. Andrea said they help her Science work. Miguel said that they were funny.

Costa Rican Independence Day

There is a special day in Costa Rica that is called the Independence Day. We celebrate by making faroles, dressing with the typical dress and accessories. The men use a white shirt and a bandana. The girls wear a purple skirt with shirt that has Costa Rica in purple or a red , blue and white skirt with typical animales and Costa Rica in red. All 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4 graders needed to bring a typical food of Costa Rica. Nicky brought Gallos con Queso ,it is a tortilla with cheese. It was served cold! Marci brought in arroz con leche. It is rice with milk.

What are we studying in Science? WEATHER

In science, we are learning about weather. Weather is cool. Every time, every day, every year, it happens. There are clouds like fog, cirrus, cumulonimbus, alto cumulus, and stratus. There are hurricanes like Katrina, Danny, Fred and Jimena. The hurricanes lasts a long time and destroy everything in it's path, the tornadoes last like 5 minutes but, it is strong enough to get a cow flying.
The water cycle is very important. It made rain,sleet,snow and hail. There are parts like precipitation, evaporation, transpiration and condensation. The water is doing all the powerful things. The water in the main thing in the whole water cycle.
We are learning about air pressure and wind. We are doing weather instruments like wind vanes, wind socks, barometer, rain gauge, anemometer and hygrometer. The wind is caused when cold air pushes down to the earth, it heats up and then warm air rises. Wind vanes, wind socks, and anemometer are to measure wind. Air pressure is cold air from high pressure area. Barometers are used to measure the air pressure. These are allused to forecast the weather.

Random Poetry

The Random Poetry was the first thing we did of poetry. We got glue , a big piece of newspaper, and some magazines. To do it you get a piece of news paper, and get words. When you get all of the words you put them together and make a poem.You paste the poem to the big paper and from the magazine you get a picture that goes with the poem and you paste it. Now you have a random poem. Here is my poem:

Fun is the best, but it is good to celebrate.

Our first book!!!

Ms. Langley picked an awesome book to read. It's name is There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom !! And it is very COOL.It talks about Bradley, Jeff and Carla.
Bradley is a boy that says "give me a dollar or I spit on you".
It's very funny and we read the book in Writer's/Reader's workshop.

Our Classroom

Our class, is a really big class with a lot of projects, games, maps, well a lot of things. There are nineteen children, ten boys and nine girls. At the top of the room, we have poems with pictures of the children. At the back of the class, we have a shelf with books and a carpet for morning meeting. We have games at the left part of the classroom. We have Science projects too. We have a poster of clouds that we have made.

Technology

In our class, we use a lot of technology. We used the kidpix to do different types of clouds and
what they are like. We also got a photo of ourselves and edited it in Befunky.com We put glasses and frames and stuff like that on the photos. We made paragraphs about ourselves in computer class. Also, we have been talking through Skype to friends of ours in Dillon, Colorado in a dual language program. They are in a fourth grade Spanish class in Dillon Valley Elementary.

Morning Meeting

In our class, we have morning meeting.We play lots of games in morning meeting like hot potato.On our first week, we played a name game where you pick a language that you want to speak then say " Good Morning" in that language.We also do something where three people bring in a current event and share it with the rest of the class.There has to be new people sharing every week.We did something where we all had to bring in some pictures of us and it could be one of you traveling, if you like traveling.Or if you like nature you could bring some pictures of nature.Then we pasted them on a poster and we wrote on the top "Someone who"...
